Pictograms and Block Graphs

Standard

In maths this week we were doing data handling. The children were learning how to design and make pictograms and block graphs, how to place data on them and also how to read and analyse information from these kinds of charts.

The children always enjoy this type of work as it is quite interactive. The also love being able to go around the classroom asking their friends, teacher and assistants what kind of fruit, vegetable and a host of other thing

2D Shapes

Standard

 

This week the children were learning about 2D shapes. Although by Year One the children know the names of the basic shapes already there is still much to teach them. I enjoy having the children find shapes in the world around them so they can see how the inanimate shapes are a part of their environment.

Handa’s Surprise

Standard

This week the children were working with the book ‘Handa’s Surprise’ and they took part in a range of activities based on the book. This book is a great one for integration, there is so much you can do with it. In our class we integrated it with numeracy, art, role play and design and technology.
